What makes a hotel sustainable? Who hasn't noticed the little signs in hotels that say something like "We are a sustainable hotel. Therefore, for the sake of the environment, we ask you to use multiple towels." Or the breakfast corner with a 10% organic section and the promise that regional products have been purchased for guests - without being transparent about where the food actually comes from and the journey it took.
Is that enough to be considered a sustainable hotel? Not in our opinion. Because only those who think outside the box and constantly strive for higher standards can offer their guests a holistic sustainable experience in the hotel. We don't just want to talk the talk, we want to live this philosophy. We are firmly convinced of the feasibility of our endeavour, as it primarily contributes to the environment (in the broader sense). With the Cause we care and Swisstainable programmes, we are committed to the continuous optimisation of sustainability measures across the entire Manz Privacy Hotel Group.
As part of the myclimate "Cause We Care" initiative, you have the opportunity to join us in making an effective contribution to climate protection and sustainability with a voluntary contribution. With CHF 3 per overnight stay, you support our sustainability measures and help compensate for the CO2 emissions of your stay. In acknowledgement, we promise to double your contribution. Part of the amount will be used to support an ecological waste management project in Kenya. This ensures that your stay is climate-neutral. The remaining amount will be invested by us in sustainability measures on site or in operational sustainability.
Manz Privacy Hotels have always been passionate about pioneering technology and sophisticated about often unusual services. And so digitalisation is not just a buzzword at Manz Hotels, but part of our philosophy. We create synergies and added value for business travellers and private travellers and ensure carefree stays and sustainable success.
Together with the Vattel hotel management school, we are developing further measures for the sustainability of our hotels and are endeavouring to complete these with a global certificate. Manz Privacy Hotels aims to have completed this process by the end of 2022.
The "Cités de l'énergie" (Energy Cities) were launched in 2001 by the SuisseEnergie programme with a view to creating a "platform for an intelligent energy policy". They promote the use of renewable energies, environmentally friendly mobility and the sustainable use of resources. Zurich is one of 313 energy cities in Switzerland.
In 2020, the city of Zurich was once again awarded the Energiestadt®Gold label for its consistent climate and energy policy, this time for the fifth time. The new audit procedure for long-standing Gold Cities was applied. This assessment centres on energy policy and the development of energy consumption. Zurich has now held the gold label for 20 years.
Zurich achieved 85% of the possible points in the energy city audit. The measures that have contributed to this include:
The fact that Zurich can continue to carry the gold label is thanks to the commitment of a large number of municipal departments. They implement the energy policy in their daily work.
Swisstainable is an initiative of Switzerland Tourism for more sustainable tourism in Switzerland. The sustainability programme promotes a balance between the needs of guests, the local population and the environment. Our Hotel St. Gotthard is a Swisstainable classified hotel. Thanks to our hotel location at Zurich railway station and in the immediate vicinity of the Zurich Trämli, guests at the St. Gotthard can be "Swisstainable on the move". Explore the highlights of our beautiful city without a car.
